Beauty Sleep

Beauty Sleep - Don't We All Want it!!

Beauty sleep is so important! Why do you think Disney named a movie about a Princess called "Sleeping Beauty"?! In fact, sleep in general is very important for your overall health! When you sleep, that is when your cell turnover occurs in your body and most of your free radical damage is reversed. Thus, younger more vibrant looking skin. Beauty sleep only gets more important as we age because you can only fake it so far and for so long. Also, do you really want to feel tired and groggy all day. The better you feel, the more energized you will be and the more radiant you will look.

I was asked by HSN to discuss Beauty Sleep and what I do to get it. I immediately said "Yes", considering they carry some of the Best Skin Care Products on the Market that I personally use. The following is link to an article by Carly Woods discussing 4 overnight Products that you should be using and I fully agree. I am going to elaborate a little on what I do to get the Best Beauty Sleep possible. To read about the four products click here: http://community.hsn.com/t5/HSN-Blogs/4-Overnight-Beauty-Products-You-Should-be-Using/ba-p/539738

1.) I go to bed as early as possible. In fact, a study has been done and showed that every hour slept before 12am was worth 2 hours slept after. I fully agree with this because the earlier I go to bed, even if I get the same amount of hours, the better and more energized I feel.

2.) I never go to bed with out fully completing my "Night Time Skin Care Routine". I think Carly pretty much nailed it. The only factors that I would add is that I make sure my night moisturizer has a retinal in it, so it can be working all night long. I also do a facial mask before bed 2-3 times a week. Which type of mask I pick, depends on the time of year. Now that we are in Spring and my face will not be as dry, I will be using a lifting and firming mask at night. The one I use is perfect because you just apply it to your face with a soft brush before your moisturizer and go to sleep. There is no packets to open, masks to unfold and position on your face. That is the last thing you want to be doing when you are tired and going to bed. This one is perfect, just apply it and let it go to work while you sleep.

3.) I turn off or mute all technology about a half hour before I get into bed. I find that if I am lying in bed and can't sleep, than I will turn on the television or start playing with apps on my phone. I keep the television remote out of reach and my phone out of arms length.

4.) I make sure to eat something with sugar in it about an hour before I go to bed with a full glass of water. If I am hungry, than I cannot sleep. There has also been a study done about the body and how sugar can help you sleep better. You obviously want to eat good healthy sugars, so I have a bowl of fruit and get my sugar from there. I eat it with a full glass of cold cucumber water to not only fill my belly, but to help hydrate my body and face. This also helps me to wake up looking and feeling refreshed.

5.) I turn down the temperature in my bedroom to about 66 degrees. I can't sleep if it is hot and I can always add blankets if I get chilly. The body likes to sleep in cooler dark conditions, so this helps me.

Final Thoughts:

I am going to once again reinforce how crucial sleeping is not just for your looks, but for your overall health. I hope that after you take care of your Nightly Skin Care Routine, that maybe you can follow some of these tips and they will help you get those extra beauty hours that you so beautifully deserve. So true! I admit I follow all these rules since many years naturally. I do not like to go to bed with a full belly and I enjoy doing my skin care routine- this is not a hassle for me at all. Well the 66 degrees are a bit of a problem here in Florida as that would make my A/C bill horrendous! lol. Fantastic post. I know so many people who do not sleep enough which is just crazy and probably also ages prematurely. Have a great day Sik, Sissi

Thanks Sissi,
Yes it would be constantly running in FL and where I am too in the Summer. It gets hot! Another trick I have heard of is too not wear socks and keep one foot out of the covers so your body stays cool. I tend to automatically do that anyway in the summer when its hot, so it makes sense....:) Thanks..:)
